The Headlines:   

In the role of Sr. Flavor Scientist working in Milwaukee, WI you will be part of the R&D and Innovation team.  You will use deep subject matter knowledge of flavors to generate or deliver innovation initiatives for the business.  You will lead the North Amercian organization’s flavored beverage innovation platform and be the subject matter expert in this field, keeping up to speed on industry developments and communicating to the wider business. In partnership with product development teams, Marketing Innovation and Brand Marketing, you will support the generation of new flavor ideas and flavor technical solutions for new brands or brand extensions as well as identifying renovation opportunities on existing flavored product portfolio.  This position will lead technical product development, and flavor application science in flavored beer, beyond beer, and non-alc products. You will work in a defined PMO process that will ensure the preparation of robust business cases and implementation plans.

 

 

This position reports to Sr. Dir, R&D Innovation and works closely with Innovation, Marketing, and other cross functional groups in Supply Chain.

 

The Responsibilities: 

  • Use deep subject matter knowledge of flavored beverages to generate or deliver new flavor ingredient packages, new site technical qualifications, and new flavor applications for the Americas.
  • Leads NA Innovation platform development with Marketing Innovation and Brand Marketing to support the generation of new flavored beverage ideas for current and new brand opportunities, as well as adaptation of current offerings to new sites
  • Partners internally and externally to integrate strong knowledge of flavored beverages for successful and effective technical solutions.  Responsible for improvement pricing of complete flavor packages to drive down COGS within an ever increasing procurement category.  Partner with brand to evaluate the substitution of current high cost flavors with like-for-like, lower cost solutions.
  • Leads technical initiatives within a defined project management stage gate process through concept/feasibility/development stages and supports/leads preparation of robust business cases and implementation plans.
  • Is the subject matter expert on a defined innovation platform by keeping up to speed on industry developments  and communicating to the wider business, therefore feeding ideas and best practices into the innovation funnel and inspiring others to do the same.
  • Strong flavored beverage experience with  insight to flavor complexities, cost management, and  the ability to assure sustainable and consistent end-products
  • Expert in the regulatory requirements that govern the use of flavors in beverage (and preferably alcoholic beverages).  This includes FDA, TTB, CFIA, and Health Canada regulations, and those regulatory requirements by US States where they supersede federal guidance.   

 

The Other Qualifications: 

 

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in food science, chemistry OR equivalent experience (10-15 years) in the field of flavor development and/or applications in the food and beverage industry
  • You have at least 10+ years of experience in the development and commercialization of flavored alcoholic beverages
  • You love a challenge. You complete complex projects quickly and adeptly with your understanding of the business priorities
