The Headlines:

In the role of Master Brewer - 10th Street in Milwaukee, WI,  you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing/directing the operations in the Brewing and Quality Assurance departments to ensure efficient/cost effective use of personnel and materials in response to production demands. This individual leads and is responsible for brewing operational performance, asset care and reliability, quality, brewing scheduling, manufacturing systems and project management. 


The position reports to the Senior Operations Manager and oversees the salaried quality team and a team of hourly brewery workers.  


The Responsibilities:

  • Direct the continuous operation of the Brewing Department in accordance with established schedules, practices, and procedures
    • Ensure that bulk beer is produced to meet the requirements outlined on various production schedules; recommend changes to production schedules to reduce cost through process optimization
    • Order all direct and in-direct brewing materials as required to meet daily operational needs; interface with vendors to resolve delivery and quality issues as they arise
    • Ensure all finished packages are analyzed to meet established specifications this includes all product quality analyses, HACPP requirements, package integrity, date coding and label quality, etc.    
  • Direct the Quality Assurance Department in accordance with established schedules, practices, and procedures
    • Assures brewery produces, packages, and ships in accordance to Molson Coors Beverage Company quality management policy, plans/standards, and regulatory compliance
    • Ensures the accuracy of analysis and evaluation of quality measurements (chemical, microbiological physical and sensory / taste)
  • Prepare and maintain accurate production and inventory records for TTB reporting and internal use. Prepare and maintain all quality assurance records, and retain material and product samples as per BRQA and applicable State and Federal guidelines
  • Ensure all operating practices, procedures, and union labor agreements are properly administered and enforced
    • Monitor the various department processes for adverse trends and ensure equipment and systems are operated in accordance with established guidelines
    • Plan for and ensure the use of: safe operating practices/procedures, all quality standards/procedures
    • Demonstrate commitment to quality through review of all quality trends, ensure training levels are adequate, and lead other quality initiatives as needed
    • Demonstrate commitment to safety through attendance at all safety meetings and other safety initiatives as directed
  • Participate in labor negotiations, administer plant wide job postings, and work with Union Stewards to resolve grievances, or elevate as necessary to the next step
    • Evaluate and consult on grievances/disciplinary actions, and maintaining compliance with labor agreements
  • Ensure the department(s) are properly staffed and employees are adequately trained in their respective functions
    • Prepare/oversee weekly staffing schedules for direct and indirect reports
    • Prepare recommendations for staffing levels, production & capital budgets, and implement procedures to monitor/control/reduce costs
  • Foster concepts of continuous improvement, TQA, ISO 9000, Six Sigma, TPM, JIT, etc. in support of the business plan for the Operations Department
    • Provide for the technological upgrade of the department(s) by exploring new technologies and processes which will improve the overall efficiency of department operations
    • Review beer delivery to packaging on a continuous basis looking for ways to minimize disruptions and increase efficiency
  • Provide technical support to the Utility Department, and back-up supervision for all maintenance functions at the brewery
  • Other duties as assigned


The Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Microbiology, or a related scientific field required
    • Advanced degree in business administration preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a process manufacturing environment

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a consultative/corporate role would be beneficial

  • Advanced knowledge of the brewing, fermentation, aging, and packaging processes, and associated microbiological concerns as required

    • This includes: grain handling systems, dust control, quality assurance equipment, ammonia refrigeration, CO2 collection, boiler operations, etc. 

  • Proven track record in leading change & managing projects/strategic initiatives from conception through implementation

  • Advanced interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, maintain credibility across all levels of the organization, & coach/transfer knowledge, tools, and capabilities

  • Computer skills including: Microsoft Programs (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, and Access, financial management/budgeting tools, etc.
