In the role of Tooling Senior Specialist - Ends working in Golden, CO, you will maintain an active part in the achievements that are required by the production departments to meet their goals.  This is done by actively performing the tooling planning, specific PM planning surrounding tooling and related equipment, controlling and assisting in the tool reconditioning programs, a competitive fabrication program, and providing emergency tooling service.  Develop and assist in an active, workable training program to ensure maximum efficiency of production tooling and maintain the lowest possible costs per line hour.  Requires an overall knowledge of the machine tool, die maintenance and repair operations. 
 
This position reports to the Asset Care Manager. 
 
What You’ll Be Brewing: 

  • Perform duties of Tooling Planner / Tool Room Senior as follows: 
    • Monitor tooling inventories on a weekly basis to ensure continuous supply to meet Production demands.  
    • Work closely with Purchasing and outside Tooling vendors to ensure timely delivery of wear tooling and rework parts. Includes proficient utilization of the SAP work order and purchasing operations 
    • Work closely with the Tool Room team to maintain high quality and timely rework and fabrication of tooling.
  • Recognizes the value and importance of team building and effective communications in the successful completion of everyday assignments. Works to build this mutual respect and sense of team. A failure by a member of the team is a failure that is shared by the whole team, especially the leadership. 
  • Recognizes safety hazards and takes proper steps to eliminate them. Always works in a safe manner, be familiar with all safety policies (including PPE) and maintain a clean, safe work environment. 
  • Identifies gaps in technology and skills and initiates the training of all personnel to expand overall capabilities of the department. 
  • Troubleshoots and determines cause of breakdowns or malfunctioning equipment. Makes necessary repairs to get equipment online and takes necessary steps to prevent recurrences. This applies to both Production equipment and Tool Room shop equipment. 
  • Works with Engineering and Production on checkout, rework and modifications to bring new equipment or tooling online. Gives feedback to Engineering and Production on problems to be avoided in the future. 
  • Assigns jobs, allocates duties to the employees to gain maximum results in meeting work schedules with a high quality and quantity of work performance. 
  • Coordinates with the QA Team to prioritize the inspection of incoming tooling and critical mechanical parts as required. 
  • Operates tool room machines and equipment and performs tool and die maintenance repair operations with hand-on work as necessary. 
  • Supports the inventory reduction process by providing support in defining the necessary spare parts requirements, correct min./max. levels, and identifying spare parts currently in stock that are no longer required. Initiate Inventory Control Request to affect these changes. 

 
Key Ingredients: 

  • High School or equivalent, four years certified apprenticeship or equivalent in technical school or machinist/toolmaker field. 
  • Five years tool and die maker experience. Three years of direct container manufacturing experience required. Must be thoroughly familiar with production tooling and related equipment, quality standards and company procedures. Must have demonstrate leadership qualities and have a task completion reputation. 
  • Must know how to operate all tool room equipment, be aware of all methods and procedures related to machine shop operation. Must have good oral and written communications abilities as well as teaching skills. Human Relations skills are necessary to maintain effective contact with all levels of management 
  • Will be standing 60% of working time with lifting, occasionally up to fifty pounds. Will require overtime, off shift, weekend and holiday work.  Some assignments may include limited overnight travel out of state. Troubleshooting frequently involves a difficult mental effort while under stress from production personnel. Some jobs require extreme patience and persistence with people and machinery, during which time the working environment may be noisy, hot, cold uncomfortable and can involve hazardous materials or dangerous machinery.
