The Headlines

The Technician – Beer Processing will be responsible for operating the Yeast Drying Plant. The yeast drying operation consists of receiving liquid yeast slurry from Cellar 9, evaporating excess water and ethanol, and drying the yeast into a powder for package and sale to an outside vendor.  In this role, you will work independently as the sole operator on shift. The technician will work as part of a team of 4 people and cover shifts where coworkers are out on LOA.

  

The Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor yeast solids and pH levels in cellar 9 storage tanks.
  • Coordinates the transfer of yeast slurry from cellar 9 with cellar 9 operators, this includes ensuring effective setup nightly for expected yeast pushing from fermenting and aging cellars.
  • Operate evaporation system to efficiently remove excess water and ethanol from yeast.
  • Operate dryer system to reduce moisture content of yeast to approximately 4%
  • Execute Minor and Major CIP operations as necessary.
  • Ensure chemicals required for CIP are available and replenished when needed.
  • Coordinate daily/weekly bagging operation with bagging operator.
  • Coordinate with yeast bagging operator to ensure proper movement of dried yeast through silos while plant is in operation.
  • Support bagging operator with logistics of having dried yeast supersacks loaded onto trailers and shuttled down to the hops storage facility warehouse
  • Responsible for monthly audits of safety, housekeeping, roof drain, and storm drain systems.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot all operations to maximize efficiency of yeast drying process. This includes operations of 50# steam, 400# steam, cooling water, and electrical throughout the plant.
  • Execute daily/weekly operational PMs as assigned, documenting any findings, and submitting notifications as necessary.
  • Communicate with planning team and participate in weekly planning and scheduling team when on day shift to support prioritization of work and answer questions the planning team may have.
  • Support LOTOTO operations to ensure maintenance can be executed during available windows.
  • Walk maintenance personnel through and LOTOTO tasks completed as required.
  • YDP is operated continuously on a 4x4 schedule with one operator/schedule.
     

The Other Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Demonstrated understanding of flow, volume control in a closed system or experience in a food/beverage plant or other production environment
  • Must have an excellent safety record and be able to regularly lift over 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with operations using DeltaV, MCMS, and Inventory Tracking Systems
  • Familiarity and comfort level working around 50# steam, 400# steam, cooling water, and electrical systems.
  • Ability and willingness to routinely troubleshoot production upsets in a highly technical environment in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work alone for 12 hours at a time while driving and optimizing operational efficiency.
  • Knowledge of GMP and Food Safety processes
  • Knowledge of combustible dust hazards and appropriate mitigation techniques
