The Headlines:
In the role of Technician 3 - Packaging working in Elkton, VA you will be part of the Packaging team. You will operate and maintain packaging area equipment including packers, fillers, labelers, seamers, depalletizes, palletizers, wrappers, and other associated equipment while leading the team in our World Class Supply Chain fundamentals. You will perform maintenance as the leader of the line while coaching and supporting equipment owners on continuous improvement efforts around safety, quality, and cost.
This role reports to the Packaging Equipment Leader and works closely with the Operations team.
The Responsibilities:
- Understands, operates, and rotates through all pieces of packaging equipment.
- Follows the leadership fundamentals and assists in the implementation and workings of WCSC 2.0.
- Sanitizes all equipment on the assigned line.
- Completes reporting concerning productivity, quality, safety, maintenance, line information, manpower schedule, station control, waste monitoring, or training records in an accurate, timely and legible manner.
- Performs line checks, assists with accident investigations/follow-up, hazard analysis, audits, and attends meetings as required.
- Reads and interprets packaging schedules, job procedures or work instructions, and any special notices and/or instructions.
- Communicates with the team on all matters pertaining to the overall operation and function of equipment in the process area.
- Leads the team on effective shift Daily Direction Settings (DDS).
- Partners with Line Leader, Process Leader and Training Specialist to implement training plans.
- Onboards new team members according to the standard onboarding process.
- Communicates and coordinates activities with maintenance, quality, asset care, and other specialists as required.
- Assists management with process changes and adjustments to standard operating procedures.
- Supports the team in working safely, completes (Quick Risk Predictor) QRP before performing a job, coachesteam on safety triggers, and explains EHS key metrics.
- Responsible for autonomous maintenance of valves, motors, pumps, filter and gear boxes including lubricating all machinery, making necessary operational adjustments, troubleshooting identified issues, and ensuring equipment is running efficiently producing a quality product.
The Other Qualifications:
- Must be a minimum of 21 years old.
- High school education or equivalent required
- 2 year Associates Degree in a technical field of study.
- Ability to obtain a Fork truck license
- Knowledge in MS Outlook and MS Word
- Prior knowledge in set-up and operation of multiple pieces of production equipment.
- 3+ years in manufacturing experience in an operator based maintenance role – performing set-up, operation, changeover, and maintenance of equipment, systems, and tooling, or a minimum of an associates degree. Military service may be substituted for manufacturing experience.
- High level of mechanical aptitude/ability
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Safe Quality Food Procedures, and Safety
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and make decisions in a team based setting.
- Ability to work full-time, all shifts, all schedules, and all days of the week to include weekends and holidays.
- Ability to be called in for emergency coverage and work overtime as necessary.
