This position is a temporary safety and security officer role who will fill in for our permanent staff as needed.  Must be flexible and available to work 12hr shifts (6am-6pm or 6pm-6am) under general supervision at the Shenandoah Brewery.  You demonstrate understanding and follow compliance with governmental rules, regulations, policies, and programs related to safety and security in addition to:

  • Monitoring building and grounds to determine and identify security issues and potentially hazardous conditions or safety violations:

 

  • Perform periodic inspections of building, grounds, and equipment for hazardous conditions and/or safety violations:

 

  • Provide emergency medical attention and hazardous response support as required;

 

  • Assists in responding to and/or investigating concerns/complaints from team members and assists in taking appropriate action; and

 

  • Assists in investigations, accidents or injuries that occur in the work place.

Initiating and maintaining overall safety and security program.

  •  
      • Monitors access of all visitors, vendors, and contractors to ensure compliance with company guidelines.
      • Provides training to above to ensure understanding of company safety and security procedures.
      • Provide relevant safety awareness training and safety subject training to visitors, contractors, and team members.
      • Supports the development and maintenance of safety and security policies and training material.
      • Supports leadership in accident/incident investigation, escalating to leadership as appropriate.  Responsible for documenting such as required and reporting to proper leadership/authorities.
      • Maintains key control and gate/badge access for facility and team members.
      • Periodically tours and inspects facility, grounds and equipment to detect safety or environmental hazards and makes recommendations to correct hazards once identified.  Responsible for escalations to management or local emergency response teams as appropriate.
      • Prevents unauthorized visitors from entering premises.
      • Informs management of non-compliance or behavior problems of visitors or employees.
      • Maintains liaison with police, fire and other municipal departments to insure maximum use of their services in order to provide adequate security and safety.
      • Prepares reports or assists in special assignments as requested.
      • Uses verbal skills to de-escalate disruptive situations involving visitors or team members.
      • Provides a visible presence of authority to intervene in disruptive behavior of visitors or team members.
      • Provides administrative support for safety and health programs.
      • Administers company Occupational Noise Program.

Emergency Medical Services

  • Provides first response medical support for accidents or injuries and follows-up on medical observations and/or treatments as needed. 
  • Contacts emergency services as needed to arrange support/transport to area emergency treatment facilities.
  • Conducts drug/alcohol testing upon request following guidelines and documentation requirements.

Supports brewery safety, energy and environmental initiatives

  • Demonstrates commitment to safety through participation in and support of Safety Management Practices (SMP) and other safety initiatives as identified.
  • Supports a safety culture in alignment with MillerCoors philosophy
  • Ensures operation is conducted in a safety and environmentally friendly manner at all times; identifying and highlighting unsafe work practices and correcting with urgency.
  • Supports adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and housekeeping requirements.
  • Ensures 5S principles are applied in relation to asset management.
  • Manages Access Control of entire facility (including making badges and working with the CCURE System).
  • Co-Champion of various Safety Programs including – LOTOTO, Combustible Dust, Working at Heights, Ergonomics, and Confined Space.
  • Initiates all Hot Work Permits and performs pre and post area assessments.
  • Initiates all Confined Space Entry Permits and performs air sampling to ensure safe entry.
  • Calibrates all Chemical Monitors both portable and fixed.
  • Performs required testing of various safety equipment including – Eye wash stations, fire extinguishers, fall hazard arrest systems, Rigging equipment, and AEDs.
  • Manages Hearing Protection Program including performing annual audiograms.
  • Champions OSHA VPP Program.
  • Responds to all Life Safety Alarms – Fire, Chemical etc.
  • Acts as Incident Commander for all Emergency Incidents.
  • First Responder to all Safety Incidents – provide first aid, determine if further treatment is needed, ensures all paper work is filled out, provides direction to affected employee for post incident care, and follows up with employee to ensure there are no concern’s in the days after an incident.
  • Provides CPR training to all employees who require training – qualified electricians.
  • Coordinates Annual Risk Control Review and ensures proper closure of findings.
  • Coordinates Annual Fire Marshall Visit and ensures closure of findings.
  • Manages the Simplex Fire Alarm System
  • Partners with outside law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
  • Monitors local weather in order to activate emergency protocols if needed.
  • Provides all visitor and new employee orientation training.
  • Partners with corporate engineering to identify and mitigate potential safety issues with new projects.
  • Answers employee safety concerns.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

 

Requirements

Education and experience

High School diploma or equivalency.

 

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in safety, security, or emergency response role or similar function.

 

You are 21+ years of age and meet criminal background screening requirements.

Skills and knowledge

Acceptable training in the field of occupational security, safety and/or health.

 

First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician certification.

 

Firm knowledge of company and governmental safety and environmental policies and regulations.

 

Perform under stressful situations while dealing with the public and team members in a calm, courteous and/or firm manner when necessary.

 

Intermediate and/or advance skills in computer applications such as e-mail, calendar, spreadsheets, and word processing in performing work assignments.
