The Headlines:   

In the role of Barley Research Farm Supervisor working in Burley, ID, you will be responsible for activities associated with the successful operation of the barley research farm including planning, organizing, and leading crop production and rotations to achieve the highest quality production of research trials and seed increases by optimizing on-farm growing conditions. The Barley Research Farm Supervisor advances the program, in part, by embracing and enabling sustainable production of high performing barley varieties for Molson Coors. The Barley Research Farm Supervisor supports the Barley Breeding Program by leading crews for planting, spraying, and harvesting of small plot research trials in ID, MT, CO and WY. The Barley Research Farm Supervisor is responsible for conditioning seed for planting and pilot malting. The Barley Research Farm Supervisor is responsible for leading the Barley R&D safety program.


This position reports to Barley Research Supervisor.


The Responsibilities: 

  •  Responsible for all activities associated with successful operation of barley research farm including planning and execution of planting, optimization of growing conditions, and harvesting through application of best practices.
  • Leads on and off-site planting, spraying, trial and plot husbandry and harvesting of research small plots and seed lots.
  • Responsible for maintenance and effective operation of farm equipment and seed cleaning equipment.
  • Ensures a consistent supply of quality malting barley seed through management of seed storage system and maintains regular contact with off-site seed producer contractor to maintain barley quality.
  • Assists in ensuring practices are in compliance with pesticide/herbicide treatment, residue and other enforced government regulations.
  • Plans and coordinates activities of seasonal farm workers.
  • Drives safety program through identification and implementation of improvements required for safe and effective operation of barley research program.
  • Drives Idaho barley sustainability efforts.


The Other Qualifications:  

  • You have a high school diploma or equivalency. Bachelor’s degree on agronomy preferred
  • You have at least 1-3 years experience in agricultural related field
  • Ability to operate farm equipment
  • Possesses or has ability to obtain and maintain pesticide applicators license
  • Ability to operate seed cleaning equipment
  • Knowledge of soil science
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, in a dusty work environment, work long days during peak seasons and overtime including weekends and holidays if necessary. Able to travel in and out of state as planned and needed to execute portions of research trials.
