The Headlines:
In the role of Barley Development Scientist working in Burley, Idaho, you will collect data daily, in a lab or field setting, to allow optimum and accurate evaluation of malt barley lines and malted barley to support the goals of the Molson Coors barley breeding program. The BDS supports the barley breeding team by working as a key member and providing significant hands-on support and leadership in the activities associated with the planning, planting, growing, and harvesting of barley yield trials across ID, CO, MT, WY and Alberta, Canada to provide Molson Coors with malt barley varieties with superior agronomics and malting/brewing performance. The BDS spends significant time preparing seed for planting and conducting post-harvest work including seed cleaning, working in the barley analytical lab and malt lab as needed.
This position reports to the Barley Development Supervisor.
The Responsibilities:
- Hands-on support of barley field trial production.
- Supports post-harvest activities
- Supports greenhouse operations
- Supports barley team with administrative work
The Other Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of micro-soft products.
- Experience with agricultural equipment including planters, combines or other small plot research equipment.
- Demonstrates proficiency in computer software applications.
- Extensive domestic travel to target production areas to execute and manage field trials.
- Highly organized
- Ability to work in cross-functional team environment
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Has or is willing to obtain Pesticide Applicator License
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
