The Headlines:

In the role of Barley Research Assistant II working in Burley, ID you will be supporting the barley variety development program. You will be responsible for supporting a successful operation of barley development by assisting with leading and participating in planting and harvesting crews, barley small plot seed cleaning and seed treating, packaging of seed for planting, trial planting, field plot maintenance and harvesting both barley research trials and seed lots.


This role reports to the Barley Development Scientist.



The Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for activities associated with successful operation of small plot seed cleaning, seed treating, and packaging seed for barley field trials and post-harvest analyses.

  • Assists with all activities associated with successful operation of small plot planting, harvesting and collecting plot bag weights.

  • Assists with rogueing and producing pure seed lots.

  • Assists with harvest of single plants in early generation nurseries.

  • Assists with micro-malt lab operations.


The Other Qualifications:

  • You have a High School degree

  • You have the ability to lift 50 lbs, work in adverse weather conditions, function in a dusty work environment, and work long days during peak seasons and overtime including weekends and holidays, able to travel as needed to support operations at off-site locations

  • Basic math skills and computer skills

  • Ability to obtain forklift certification

  • Willingness to embrace a safe working environment, ability to follow directions and work in a team environment
