The Headlines

In the role of Yeast & Fermentation Scientist working in Milwaukee, WI you will be part of the Quality team in corporate operations.  You will be responsible for providing scientific expertise, leadership and support in the areas of yeast and fermentation.  You will identify and investigate improved technologies in fermentation (“right-the-first time”), novel fermentation technologies and assessment of yeast health, provide innovation solutions to fermentation issues, improve existing products and processes, and to help develop new products and processes

 

This position reports to Manager Quality Process lab and works closely with brewery quality and operations teams.

 

The Responsibilities:

  • Establish optimized fermentation conditions for enhanced yeast health and, therefore, “right-the-first time” fermentations with designed beer flavor profile.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to the breweries regarding optimization of yeast propagation, yeast handling and yeast storage practices.
  • Identify and evaluate novel advanced techniques to measure yeast viability/vitality.
  •  Ensure yeast supply by shipping pure yeast cultures to the breweries and international licensees.
  • Provide leadership role in advising/advancing optimization of yeast physiology/novel fermentation systems.
  • Provide leadership in fermentation solutions for new product development such as novel beers
  • Provide in-house expertise in resolution of all yeast/fermentation issues.

 

The Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrable evidence of driving World Class Supply Initiatives to deliver on challenging objectives
  • You love a challenge. You complete complex projects quickly and adeptly with your understanding of the business priorities.  You act with appropriate urgency to various market events and trends that require a quick turnaround in plans and strategy 
  • You are serious about delivering results, and take pride in a proven track record in delivering. 
  • You are a motivated leader that can inspire others; you respect your commitments and are able to obtain optimal results from your team through respect and development
  • You will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in microbiology; advanced degree preferred
  • You will have at least 5 years of experience working in brewing industry
  • Understanding of product analysis and test methodologies to support micro and fermentation projects 
  • Ability to teach brewing microbiology to diverse audiences
