The Headlines: 

 

In the role of Barley Elevator Operator - Barley Operations, you will be part of the Barley Program Operations Team.  Your accountabilities are focused on the basic tasks at our barley elevators which include receiving & shipping barley grain as well as assisting with elevator & property housekeeping.  Barley grain creates dust when handled, and constant vigilance is required to keep Elevators clean and in top operating condition.

 

Under the direction of the Elevator Supervisor, Barley Program, this person will unload trucks of barley as it is received from farmers, load rail cars with barley to meet the shipping schedule, and sweep and clean as required to meet facility housekeeping standards and requirements.  This position will assist the Supervisor and Specialist with equipment and property maintenance and other duties as required. An Operator's work is accomplished within a strong safety culture, adhering to safety programs and grain handling standards.

 

The Responsibilities: 

 

  • Cleaning galleries, tunnels, and machine bays in order to keep facilities safe and in top operating condition
  • Clean surfaces and equipment using brushes and brooms to remove and collect dust
  • Facilitate truck unloading, open truck gates of various types and levels of automation, communicate with drivers, and work to create a smooth unloading operation.
  • Prepare rail cars for loading, use scales and equipment to load target weights of barley, and close/seal cars prior to them being released to the carrier.
  • Daily inspection and housekeeping of barley handling equipment, utilizing checklists are used to track areas of the operation needing attention.
  • Occasional travel (2-3 times per year) completing cross-plant inspections, attending training, or assisting at other elevator locations.  The travel will be accomplished mainly by vehicle through the Rocky Mountain four state region.

 

The Other Qualifications: 

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Experience in agriculture or manufacturing preferred
  • An Operator is eager to learn and have a willingness to be coached and trained in safe work practices and operating procedures                        
  • You take safety seriously and work with the team to maintain a safe working environment.                        
  • You have the ability to learn to recognize hazards and risks.                        

 

  • An Operator look for solutions to challenging tasks.                        
  • Team communication is key.  You ask questions to seek clarity.                        

 

  • You love a challenge. You complete tasks quickly and adeptly with your understanding of the facility priorities.
