The Headlines:

In the role of Technical Accounting Manager working in Denver you will be an integral part of the global technical accounting team.  You will be responsible for executing technical accounting policy, strategy and quality supporting documentation under the direction and oversight of the Senior Manager of Global Technical Accounting. Specifically, this role has responsibility and accountability for the research and resolution of technical (complex) accounting issues encountered in our business units (e.g. sale/leaseback transactions, mergers and acquisitions, foreign currency issues, brewery closures, leases, legal contingencies, VIE/Consolidation, revenue recognition, asset retirement obligations, etc.), management of the annual goodwill and indefinite lived impairment analysis, as well as evaluation and implementation of new accounting pronouncements and policy.
 

The Responsibilities: 

  • Research and resolution of complex technical accounting matters. This includes performing technical accounting research, preparation and review of robust accounting research memorandums, and involvement with external auditors and accounting advisory specialists to align and resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Evaluation of the impact of new accounting pronouncements and assist with the overall implementation of new accounting guidance globally, including training business units on new accounting standards, policy implementation, process improvement and other US GAAP compliance requirements.
  • Manage the annual goodwill and indefinite-lived impairment analysis, including coordination with domestic and international business units, external valuation specialists, external auditors, as well as the quarterly evaluations of reporting unit and brand intangibles as appropriate based on triggering events.
  • Prepare First Disclosure committee meeting materials and Audit Committee Issues Memorandum.  Present on technical specific subject matters at First Disclosure committee meetings (members include Global CFO, CLO, BU CFOs/CLOs/Controllers, Global Finance Functional VPs).  
  • Assist with the process of completing form 10-Q and 10-K reports by drafting technical accounting specific disclosures and reviewing other footnote disclosures as a subject matter expert. 
  • Manage the development, maintenance and compliance of our global accounting policies.
  • Management of monthly close requirements (entries, reconciliations, controls) for the technical accounting function. This includes primary review of activities performed by the Technical Accounting Senior Analyst for various non-standard accounting areas including our global intangible asset portfolio, deferred compensation plans, severance reserves, Kaiser indemnities, legal and environmental reserves, etc.       

 

The Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • At least 5 years’ experience in relevant accounting roles
  • Exposure to public company (SEC-regulated) financial reporting
  • Strong US GAAP technical accounting background and passion, including focus in various accounting functions such as ASC 350, ASC 360, ASC 420/712, ASC 606, ASC 805, ASC 810, ASC 830, ASC 840/842.
  • Demonstrated technical skills including: attention to detail, critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication skills (written and oral), ability to analyze financial statements and communicate the key drivers and accounting issues/policies to business partners (financial and non-financial), time management skills, and ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Proven management and leadership skills – including team-orientation with a track record of strong collaboration, ability to work independently, high-degree of self-initiative, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
