Coors Distributing Company (CDC) is one of the nation’s leading beer distributors based out of Denver, CO. The Headlines: 

As the CDL Training Supervisor, key responsibilities will include the on-going training of Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Department of Transportation (DOT) safety compliance education. This position must implement effective and safe training techniques for Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) in both classroom and road environments to ensure trainees successfully obtain their Commercial Driver’s License. The CDL Training Supervisor will manage six (6) Driver Leads as well as up to ten (10) driver -in-training associates while they are in the DIT program.  In addition, this position will assist in facilitating and maintaining DOT regulation compliance on company grounds as well as in the marketplace setting. 

 

This is a highly responsible position performing a wide variety of functions for Coors Distributing Company. The work will include classroom training of entry level drivers, ensuring trainees are properly licensed, updating driver’s license and medical card renewals as well as keeping up with DOT compliance programs through Foley. Work is performed under the general direction of the Transportation Manager. This position requires an employee or prospective employee grant permission to do a background check.

 

Performance Management

  • Manage six (6) Driver Leads, who are responsible to work and train with various routes throughout territory in a safe and efficient manner, while training new drivers in training (DIT).
  • Responsible for up to ten drivers in training associates and all people management-related processes, including staffing, performance management and discipline, time system management, communications/team meetings, etc. for the assigned team.
  • Conduct and/or make sure that the Driver Lead is giving feedback to the Trainee about performance and development in the DIT program
  • Ride with and evaluate trainees and make decision to approve training or assign additional training based on trainers’ performance against standards and DOT regulations.
  • Conduct monthly team meetings and monthly 1x1’s around goals and current performance.
  • Document coaching conversations, performance or behavioral issues, attendance concerns, etc.… after verbally communicating with employees.  
  • Have knowledge of and understand all CDC policies and apply them consistently across the team.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to individuals on career paths, opportunities within and how they can continue to build capability and skills to achieve their personal goals.

 

Entry Level Driver Training

  • Prepare and deliver instructional activities that cover driver qualification requirements, hours of service, driver wellness and whistleblower protection.
  • Prepare and document training and training certificates in accordance with CFR 380.503 as well as keeping organized driver trainee files for inspection by FMCSA representatives.
  • Be fully versed in Theory Instruction Standard Curriculum and the aspects thereof including Section A1.1 Basic Operation, Section A1.2 Safe Operation Procedures, Section A1.3 Advanced Operating Practices, Section A1.4 Vehicle Systems and Reporting Malfunctions and Section A1.5 non-driving activities.
  • Prepare classroom and behind-the-wheel driving courses for class activities in accordance with ELDT regulations
  • Ensure trainee can apply classroom and behind-the-wheel training to on the road.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and safe operation of equipment.
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction and training processes. 
  • Observe, evaluate, and document trainee’s performance and development through course completion tracking and by providing consistent feedback to both trainee and driver lead.
  • Partner with trainee’s driver lead to proactively address development concerns as they arise.  Maintain accurate and complete records of trainee’s progress and development. 
  • Maintain regulatory compliance documentation to promote safety and ensure FMCSA, DOT & ELDT compliance.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and on the range by enforcing rules, processes, and procedures.
  • Ensure an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of current regulations regarding FMCSA, DOT and ELDT compliance. 
  • Report and record all incidents (accidents) involving CDC equipment or workplace injuries to, to trainee’s Supervisor.

 

Relationship Management

  • Act as liaison between Drivers in Training, Driver Leads, Delivery Supervisors, Assistant Delivery Managers.
  • Assist with escalated issues between Drivers and Retailers.
     

Quality Assurance

  • Maintain quality control processes within team through scheduled or random audits.  
  • Be consistent in holding individuals accountable for performance concerns with non-rotated beer, old beer and/or breakage.  
  • Communicate expectations and provide coaching when issues arise, and additional training is required.
     

The Other Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED, 
  • Must have at least 5+ years’ experience driving a CMV, requiring a Class A CDL and MVR must fall within the MolsonCoors Pre-Employment Background Screening Guidelines
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class A CDL and a satisfactory driving record and NOT be disqualified through Federal Motor Carrier Regulations 49 CFR. All CDL Driver Trainers SHALL meet and maintain the physical requirements for commercial drivers set forth in 49 CFR 391 43.
  • Must have working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA & OSHA regulations.
  • Experience with ergonomics/proper body mechanics techniques.
  • Aptitude for teaching/coaching and facilitating training in both small and large groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal commutation skills
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) proficiency.
     

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, as well as an outside environment which could include extreme hot and cold temperatures.  You will need to use standard office equipment including a computer.  You will need to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the office.
  • Must be capable of lifting/stacking 165 lbs. (Kegs occasionally).
  • Must be capable of using 2 wheeled dolly to move up to 2 kegs (330 lbs.) or 10 cases (300 lbs.) into retailer.  This includes pushing and pulling on flat surfaces and up/down flights of stairs.
  • Must be able to drive a CDL Class A vehicle on a route as needed.

Job Posting Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
