The Senior Systems Security Engineer plays a key role in defining, engineering, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-wide system security capabilities. The role ensures that system security architecture, designs, standards, and controls remain fit for purpose, mitigate risk, and align with overall IT security strategy and compliance requirements.

 

This position acts as a senior subject matter expert in systems security across infrastructure, applications, networks, and security tooling - covering hardening, secure configuration, monitoring, threat mitigation, and integration of security technologies. The engineer provides technical leadership for major security initiatives and collaborates with IT teams, enterprise architects, project teams, and external partners to ensure systems remain secure and resilient.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Security Strategy, Architecture & Standards
•    Define and maintain systems security standards, processes, and patterns aligned with enterprise IT security strategy.
•    Provide technical direction ensuring system, network, and infrastructure security requirements - current and future -are implemented effectively across the enterprise.
•    Serve as systems security SME for solution development, integrations, and changes, ensuring alignment with corporate security policies and regulatory requirements.
Engineering & Implementation Leadership
•    Lead design, engineering, testing, implementing, and improving system security solutions across multiple platforms (servers, endpoints, networks, and cloud workloads).
•    Translate functional and security requirements into technical designs for system hardening, security tools, integrations, and secure configurations.
•    Lead complex systems security implementations, migrations, or remediation projects, managing deliverables to completion.
Advanced Security Operations & Technology Ownership
•    Engineer, implement, and continuously enhance security measures to protect computer systems, networks, and information, including automation of repeatable processes.
•    Analyze, evaluate, and deploy new internal IT security tools/controls supporting enterprise security posture.
•    Develop custom scripts, utilities, and integrations to support security analyses, investigations, and platform interoperability.
•    Provide Tier‑2/Tier‑3 support for systems security technologies and infrastructure security components.
Risk, Compliance & Consulting
•    Provide consulting support to IT Business Partners, Architects, and Project Teams to ensure systems security standards and controls are applied.
•    Support internal/external audit and compliance assessments related to system security.
•    Ensure system-level security controls meet enterprise requirements and align with overall cybersecurity risk posture.
Threat & Vulnerability Management
•    Conduct proactive research to identify security weaknesses, emerging threats, or technology issues; recommend and implement mitigation strategies.
•    Lead analysis, testing, and deployment of technical solutions addressing vulnerabilities and improving system resilience.

 

Skills and Relevant Work Experience

•    8–10 years working experience in IT, with at least 4–5 years in system security engineering, infrastructure security, or security architecture.
•    Experience building, engineering, and maintaining security systems across Windows, Linux, and cloud services.
•    Strong experience with SIEM, SOAR, EDR, firewalls, IDS/IPS, Zero trust, authentication systems, log management, and secure configuration baselines.
•    Deep knowledge of system, database, and operating system security; secure configuration standards; vulnerability remediation.
•    Network and system monitoring; strong knowledge of modern security principles, techniques, and protocols.
•    Scripting (Python, PowerShell, Perl, C/C++).
•    Cloud security capabilities (Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365/O365).
•    Familiarity with web applications, APIs, integration technologies, and security protocols.
•    Communicates complex security topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Clear, concise communication and stakeholder management.
•    Technical leadership: sets direction, mentors engineers, and drives adoption of security patterns and standards.
•    Influence & collaboration: aligns cross‑functional teams (infra, apps, cloud, network) around secure-by-design outcomes.
