Role Overview:

 

Our EH&S Manager in Toronto, ON, is looking for a Health & Safety Specialist with manufacturing experience and proven experience to develop/implement and maintain environmental, health and safety management systems to ensure the programs meet, or exceed applicable legislation, regulations, by-laws and company directives.

 

The Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibilities of this role will be to provide expertise and support to the Toronto Brewery in the H&S areas. This includes day to day administration of Health & Safety programs to ensure outstanding performance and compliance with governmental regulations.
  • The successful candidate will act as H&S expert to support the EHS Manager to assist the Brewery in improving H&S performance and ensuring that the operations meet or exceed all applicable legislation, regulations, by-laws and company standards.
  • You will be responsible to design programs, implement them and work in a unionized environment. You will help lead and facilitate the Health & Safety Process in the Brewery to continuously improve our safety performance. This is a visible leadership position in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Conduct internal training for:
      • Accident/Incident Investigation
      • Planned Inspections
      • Management/New Employees and Contractor Orientation
      • Critical Task Analysis
      • Working at heights awareness
      • Task Observation
      • Respirator training and fit testing
      • Emergency response procedures for Brewery Emergency Response Team

 

  • Assess quality of Accident Investigations and follow-up
  • Conduct Hazard Assessments.
  • Conduct Engineering and Change Management Reviews
  • Conduct Critical Task Analysis
  • Conduct staff and hourly Training Needs Analysis
  • Coordinate Industrial Hygiene Reviews and testing (i.e. Noise – Chemical exposures – Lighting – ergonomics – Radiation Safety)
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Environment (MOE) and the Ministry of Labour (MOL) on behalf of the company, as required.
  • Assume job duties of EH&S Manager when absent.
  • Support the plant nurse with WSIB/WCB claims whenever needed.
  • Act as co-chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Alternate member of Crisis Management Team and The Brewery Management Team.
  • Support the implementation of WCSC 2.0.
  • Be a coach for employee mindset & behaviours on the shop floor.

 

If You Have the Following…We Want To Hear From You!

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or other appropriate technical discipline
  • 4-7 yrs. safety experience with OSHA, CSHO (manufacturing environment, food and beverage industry is an asset),
  • CRSP or similar designation would be an asset
  • Ability to solve problems, influence and communicate ideas to affect change in behaviour’s
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, safe work procedures and best practices
  • Takes accountability for achieving exceptional business results with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong background of driving change in a unionized environment.
  • Strong coaching / facilitating / communication skills with the ability to communicate complex or sensitive information
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
