The Headlines:  

 

In the role of the Director of Brewing – Toronto Brewery, you will be responsible for the People, QFS & EHS programs, financial and operational performance, World Class Supply Chain phase progression, production scheduling, manufacturing system and project management.  Ensures high quality products are packaged cost effectively through maximizing operational efficiency and reliability. 

 

Leads and supports brewery safety, sustainability, and environmental initiatives through the partnership with other department and corporate functions to develop local strategies and tactics in alignment with the brewery.

 

Builds and develops a team of employees in the areas of technical and leadership development.  Leads, mentors, and develops assigned team in Performance, Career and Talent Management.  Responsible for competency acquisition process for department. Promotes and consults with leadership on strategies to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive and engaging environment.

 

This person reports to the General Manager, Toronto Brewery.

 

The Responsibilities:

  • Leading and ensuring that all health, safety and environment, quality, food safety, cost and reliability standards are met and driving conformance to regulatory (ie. EHS & SOX) and accreditation standards (ie. HACCP) in brewing
  • Develops and leads local brewing strategies to meet or exceed annual operating plans, develops budgetary and capital plans, reviews existing equipment capacity and staffing in order to meet long range planning goals which are aligned to brewery CBN (Compelling Business Needs)
  • Provides leadership to optimize performance in all areas of brewing required to achieve business goals using World Class Supply Chain principles & best practices. 
  • Lead the Work Process Improvement pillar and build capacity
  • Sets objectives and priorities and leads the change management processes for the department
  • Pursues and implements cost savings, optimization opportunities, and future manufacturing capabilities
  • Provides input, development and implementation to new projects, initiatives, and systems to optimize performance
  • Supports structured communications throughout the department and brewery leadership team
  • Effectively coaches and communicates with the team and recognizes the right behaviors and outputs and builds effective partnerships across the brewery and supply chain network
  • Drives talent planning and performance management practices through one-on-ones, team performance discussions and development of the team and goals

 

The Other Qualifications:  

 

  • Minimum of ten (10) years in a leadership position in a high-speed, high-volume unionized manufacturing environment
  • Deep understanding of the practices associated with the development and administration of Union contracts
  • Advanced familiarity with the various technical aspects of brewing operations
  • Advanced knowledge of brewing practices and procedures
  • Must be familiar with the various technical aspects of brewing operations and its’ associated equipment
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of brewing quality; ability to analyze business reports and recognize trends that adversely impacts quality
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and managerial ability to directly manage personnel, while providing for their technical training and personal development
  • Demonstrated understanding of World Class Supply Chain and be able to establish and implement plans for changing workplace strategies adopted by the company in pursuit of its’ compelling business needs 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA regulations, employee relations practices/policies, plant safety regulations, quality and food safety guidelines for food plants, and environmental regulations regarding manufacturing brewery operations
  • Ability to apply high level root-cause and problem-solving skills at all levels
