In the role of the Controls & Automation Engineer at the Fraser Valley Brewery in Chilliwack, BC, you will lead execution, automation and controls technical systems expertise and core competencies to deliver manufacturing systems support to the brewery functions (brewing, packaging, powerhouse, WWTP). The position is expected to incorporate agreed/standard technologies and provide process improvements through innovation and optimization. Provides technical and operational support for brewery and enterprise projects. As a SME of automation and control in the brewery, the control specialist will lead and be a key player for new manufacturing equipment integration.
Ensure that problems and issues with brewery manufacturing systems are resolved in a timely and effective manner aligned to agreed service level agreements. Assists in the implementation of the Molson Coors systems strategy.
Works with the Corporate Teams and Brewery IT Manufacturing Systems groups to optimize processes, applications and technologies.
Responsible for the safety and quality of our products by adhering to all rules, regulations, policies, programs and related Molson Coors Safe Quality Food (SQF) guidelines.
The Responsibilities:
Provides Brewery functional support:
- Ensures that systems are being fully utilized and add value to the department and the teams
- Assist MES IT group for systems related issues for functional area.
- Provides the following services to the function:
- Application configuration
- Application design support
- Control system design, development, deployment according to Molson Coors standards
- Application software maintenance/support
- Ensure data integrity and security
- Manage systems related documentation
- Systems maintenance/repair
- Process optimization
- Disaster recovery process.
- Advanced process control
- Leverage/optimize manufacturing systems
- Optimize manufacturing processes through the use of systems.
- Provide functional/operational support
- System configuration.
Provides technology support:
- Is the subject matter expert on the technologies found in the plant/functional area and advises/monitors for site wide standards
- Instrumentation
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s)
- Stand-alone dedicated Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s)
- Servomotor
- Robotic
- Floor I/O
- Device network
- Software to support the above elements
- Has general knowledge on the technologies found in the plant/functional area and advises/monitors for site wide standard
- Control Systems Networks Manufacturing Systems Applications
- Distributed Control Systems (DCS’s)
Ensures governance of policies, procedures, and standards:
- Ensures all Molson Coors systems policies, procedures and standards are being adhered to.
- Provides input to the development of the Molson Coors systems policies, procedures and standards.
Leads continuous improvements in functional area:
- Works with the functional teams to achieve world class effectiveness of systems, equipment, processes and people through rigorous focus on the identification and elimination of waste.
- Applies manufacturing systems best practices to drive down costs, improve quality and enhance our ability to cost-effectively deliver and sell more beer.
Supports brewery safety, energy, and environmental initiatives:
- Encourages the identification of and provides technical resources for environmental and energy savings projects.
- Demonstrates commitment to safety through participation in and support of SMP and other safety initiatives as identified.
- Leads and creates a safety culture in alignment with Molson Coors philosophy.
- Ensures operation is always conducted in a safety and environmentally friendly manner, identifying and highlighting unsafe work practices and correcting with urgency.
- Ensures that all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and housekeeping tasks are carried out, and
Supports team performance and creates a culture of employee engagement
- Models CSFs, MCMW work, WCSC 2.0 principles and practices.
- Encourages and influences teams and employees to recommend, implement and transfer knowledge on new ideas, shared learnings, and best practices to optimize operations.
- Involves employees and teams in all facets of projects, trials, and improvements.
- Follows all performance, talent, and career management processes. Manages individual development plan.
- Drives performance management practices.
- Effectively coaches and communicates and recognizes the right behaviors & outputs and builds effective partnerships across the brewery and supply chain network.
- Mentors, supports and coaches team members
- Supports and participates in structured communications throughout the department
The Other Qualifications:
- You have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
- You have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment.
- You have high speed consumer package and goods experience a plus.
- You have systems technology skills and experience at least 3 of the following:
- Manufacturing systems networks and architectures
- Manufacturing systems applications
- Distributed Control Systems (DCS’s)
- Human Manchine Interfaces (HIM's)
- You have general knowledge and acquire know-how in:
- Automation control systems (PLC's; DCS')
- Control Networks
- You have general knowledge and acquire know-how in:
- You have Instrumentation experience
- You have the ability to analyze data and recognize detrimental trends that could impact the company through increased costs, potential regulatory issues or risk management impact
- You have communication skills, oral and written, for the preparation of professional, clear, concise reports and for presentations to plant leadership teams.
- You have interpersonal, listening and negotiation skills to deal effectively with contractors, suppliers, vendors, peers, team members, superiors, consultants, and other professionals.
- You have judgment skills to balance company, division and department goals and objectives.
